Fat…are you getting enough?

You need to be eating fat.  Yes, you read it right!  You need good quality fats in your diet every day.  Essential Fatty Acids, which can only be derived from your diet or through supplementation, help balance hormones and help fuel the sperm on its journey to the egg.

Research has shown that 90% of women of child-bearing age are not getting enough omega-3s in their diet which are essential for optimum fertility.

Fat also stores the important vitamins A, D, E and K, which all have a role to play in your fertility and provides protection for our organs as well as being a great energy source.

So foods rich in healthy fats that you need to look out for are:

  • Nuts such as almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamias, pecans and walnuts
  • Seeds, for example chia-seeds, pepitas, sunflower seeds, flaxseeds and sesame seeds
  • Avocados
  • Oily fish, such as salmon, tuna, mackerel and sardines
  • Flaxseed oil
  • Olive oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Coconut butter
  • Organic butter
  • Organic and/or grass-fed meats
  • Organic poultry
  • Tahini, a spread made from sesame seeds
